Future of Technology - Software Systems of Tomorrow and AI

The University of Limerick's R@ISE Project on Low-code/No-code Software Development, will hold 'Software Systems of Tomorrow and AI', the first event of the Future of Technology series on June 7th at the University of Limerick.

The Future of Technology
series of events will explore hot research and innovation topics at the bleeding edge of academia and industry. These events are in collaboration with the Irish Computer Society (ICS)

This first event Software Systems of Tomorrow and AI is in collaboration with the Centre for Research Training in AI (CRT-AI) with expert speakers from industry and academia followed by a panel and Q&A session.

Speakers

Dr. Taylor T. Johnson, Associate Professor of Computer Science (CS) at Vanderbilt University

Topic:

"What have we learned with AI components in autonomous systems?”, in the context of the DARPA Assured Autonomy initiative and the NSF TAI workshop that led to  the creation of the new NSF SLES program

Dr. Taylor T. Johnson PE, is A. James and Alice B. Clark Foundation Chancellor Faculty Fellow and an Associate Professor of Computer Science (CS) at Vanderbilt University, where he directs the Verification and Validation for Intelligent and Trustworthy Autonomy Laboratory (VeriVITAL) and is a Senior Research Scientist in the Institute for Software Integrated Systems (ISIS).
Dr. Johnson's research aims to develop reliable autonomous cyber-physical systems (CPS) that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning components, such as neural networks, for tasks ranging from estimation and perception to planning and control.

Dr Houssem Chatbri is a Director of Data Science and AI at BNY Mellon Dublin.

Topic:

"Transforming the oldest American bank with AI”, introducing the bank’s area of business, the AI and ML techniques that his team is using to implement solutions for the business, and the future areas that the team is exploring, with examples from ongoing and past projects.

Dr Houssem Chatbri leads a team of data scientists who work closely with the business to develop AI/ML models that focus on creating revenue creating opportunities, improving the client experience, and increasing operational efficiency.

Dr Chatbri has years of experience in data science roles across industry and academia. He holds a PhD in computer science from the University of Tsukuba in Japan in 2016, and is  a visiting scientist to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York US and to University of New England in Australia.

This event will bring industry practitioners, ICS members,  local ICT communities, PhD students, researchers and UL academics together.
